As an aside, I had Seven’s “Sunrise” on this morning. Now, I watch the show to get basic news and weather updates while waking up and getting ready for work, and I expect it to resemble a series of infomercials more than any form of meaningful debate about current affairs. I also recognise that Seven is the broadcaster of the Olympics and wants us to focus on the sporting spectacle. But it was disappointing to hear them ask their local correspondent what had happened to the Korean TV crew who leaked the footage of opening ceremony rehearsals and jokingly suggest that the Chinese officials will be keeping a close eye on them from now on. Whitewashing is bad enough; making light of an oppressive and intrusive regime is another.
