Fiscal conservatism, hurrah. How about cutting needless bureaucracy and putting the savings into providing meaningful services to the citizens? And then spending any more that needs to be spent to make sure the services are up to scratch?

How about abolishing these unaffordable tax cuts and putting the money towards the ends for which it was collected, namely education and health. A $3 billion windfall in underspent money ought to be spent and if Rudd wants a further $10 billion in budget cuts those tax cuts are where you’re going to find it.
Yes, we should have an efficient public service but we should also have an adequately funded public service.
