Dennis Shanahan reports a leaked Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet submission indicating that manufacturers are worried that a change of government will drive them out of Australia.
The Australian automotive industry’s peak body denies such a submission exists.
On those facts, at least one of the following is true:
- Dennis Shanahan wrote a report containing claims that he knew were false.
- Someone in the Government supplied Shanahan with false information.
- The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has issued a false denial.

I can’t imagine the FCAI falsely denying writing a letter, when they could easily be caught out by having a copy materialise. Which leaves option 2 as the most likely one, from my perspective. But it also leaves the GG looking like Team Howard stooges, swallowing their lies and then regurgitating them for our consumption.
